Save Child CareWe have seen a budget stalemate like no other that culminated on October 8, 2010 with elimination of funding for our Stage 3 families. We have maneuvered through many management bulletins and numerous court decisions that kept us alive but in limbo, legislative and administrative processes that left us unsure if and when we would ever see funding for the services we have faithfully provided, all the whilst serving as a voice of support to local families and businesses so needing us to keep our doors open. We now are in the midst of realizing more cuts to our fragile infrastructure and need more unity and a louder voice. On October 8, CAPPA moved into the role as a conduit of information for agencies, centers, resource and referral agencies, local First 5’s, parents, businesses owners, local and statewide elected officials and their staffs’. Because of our members and their demand that during these times, the entire field needs to pull together, CAPPA took the lead and gave way to Save Child Care. Save Child Care became the resource that the entire field could count on, evolved into a true partnership with CDD in orchestrating conference calls and sharing materials that could be accessed by all, and served as an effective tool to support all parts of the field in sharing local economic impact information with those elected to represent them in Sacramento. CAPPA has always recognized its role as the voice of APPs. But in a true visionary fashion, and in these hostile political times, CAPPA leaders took the unprecedented action of having the organization strengthen and raise the collective voice of the field to those elected officials that needed to act to shore up our early care and education delivery system.
